The Hippopotamus is type of Friend that has made appearances in many Kemono Friends media.
Appearance
Hippopotamus wears a black two-piece diving jacket that turns red at the tips, as well as having rivets in them that represent the creature's nostrils, with a small zipper at the end, representing a hippo's tail. She has 'coiled' black hair that fades to red at the tips that reach to her back, and bangs that curve around her head, representing hippo fangs, her front hair's shape represents a hippo's snout and top teeth. Her eyes are also of a dark brown color. Her diving jacket has an orange stripe that fades to purple, to orange again, begining from the bottom of her wetsuit going to the position for it to look like the top view of a hippo's head. Continuing on her arm starting from the place it ends at her torso. It continues at the back as a straight stripe on both her torso and arms.

In Real Life
The hippopotamus is a large, mostly herbivorous mammal in sub-Saharan Africa. Their dense bodies make it impossible for them to swim, even though they spend most of their time in the water. Hippos move easily in water, either swimming by kicking their hind legs or walking on the bottom. They are well-adapted to their aquatic life, with small ears, eyes and nostrils set at the top of the head.
The main source of food for the Hippo is the short grass. They spend five or more hours grazing every single evening. They may walk up to five miles during that period of time. They can also consume up to 150 pounds of food per day. They very seldom consume any type of plants that are found in the water, even though they are often accessible. Experts don’t readily understand why they don’t consume them. They are known to consume small animals and carrion though when they can’t get the green vegetation that they need.
Hippos have a flexible social system defined by hierarchy and by feed and water conditions. Usually they are found in mixed groups of about 15 individuals, but in periods of drought large numbers are forced to congregate near limited pools of water. This overcrowding disrupts the hierarchical system, resulting in even higher levels of aggression, with the oldest and strongest males most dominant.
