Hippopotamus Gorgops is a type of extinct Friend that first appeared in the original Kemono Friends mobile game and got a redesign in Festival.
Appearance
In the new design, Hippopotamus Gorgops has long feathered hair with edges tinted in a light yellow-brown color. She has thin eyebrows and bangs that curve around her head, which might represent a hippo's fangs, or the shape of a hippo's snout. There are two pieces of hair on each side of her head that go over her goggles, which might represent the top teeth of a hippo. She is wearing a black & light blue wet suit with two golden rivets on the bottom of her belly, representing the nostrils of the animal she's based on, and a golden zipper attached on her back, covering her tail. She is wearing swimming goggles that represent the creature's stalk-eyes. She wears blue pants with the middle part being black, her knees have a black shape which is curved inwards at the top, and gets thinner in the middle with two circles on each side of it. She wears light blue slippers and has orange eyes with small pupils. Like all other friends, she has the anatomical traits of the animal she originated from. In this case, the ears and tail of a hippopotamus gorgops. While her tail is covered by her clothes in her usual appearance, her tail can be seen without her clothes covering it on various Kemono Friends 3 outfits. Her tail has short hair on it that is the same color as the light yellow-brown color on her hair. Concept art by Mine Yoshizaki notes that the decision to make fluffiness of the hair on her tail lesser than the tail hair of Hippopotamus was made to convey that the hippopotamus gorgops was a more aquatic animal. The aforementioned concept art depicts Hippopotamus Gorgops wearing blue underwear.
In the old design, Hippopotamus Gorgops has short dark gray hair that reaches the back of her neck with edges tinted in blue. Her outfit is composed of a two-piece wetsuit with a heart-shaped cleavage, and a small zipper on the back. Her wetsuit's sleeve caps and the thigh parts of her pants have fabrics on them which are blue fading to yellow. She's holding binoculars with blue objective lenses that represent stalk eyes. She has blue gloves, blue shoes, and red eyes. Her wetsuit has a black dot with spaced black outlines on the each side of the bottom of her wet suit, representing hippo nostrils, and a smaller black dot placed next to them. The two pieces of her suit are separated with a line that fades from yellow to blue, to yellow again. She has hippopotamus gorgops ears and a tail with a zipper attached. Unlike the redesign, it is unknown if her real tail is covered by fabric, or if it's a part of her clothing that is shaped like the tail of a hippo.

In Real Life
Hippopotamus gorgops, also called Gorgon-eyed river horse, is an extinct species of hippopotamus. It first appeared in Africa during the late Miocene, and eventually migrated into Europe during the early Pliocene. It became extinct prior to the Ice Age. With a length of 4.3 metres (14 ft), a shoulder height of 2.1 metres (6.9 ft) and with a weight of 3,900 kilograms (8,600 lb) H. gorgops was much larger than its living relative, the common hippopotamus. Unlike its living relative, H. gorgops had eyestalk-like orbits extruding above its skull, making it even easier for the creature to see its surroundings while almost fully underwater.
