Steller's Sea Cow KF3 Nexon Game

Steller's Sea Cow is a type of Friend that appeared in the original Kemono Friends mobile game.

Appearance

Steller's Sea Cow has cyan-blue eyes, her shoulder-length hair is magentaish grey that fades into a darker tone of the same color at the end of it. Besides her long tail fin she has two large flippers right above the ears, befitting her species. Her flippers share the same color tone as her hair, getting darker at the end and so does her tail fin.

Steller's Sea Cow wears a bikini that is greenish gray colored with several white spots on it representing the real animal's skin color. The Bikini top goes around her neck where it fades into a orange- yellow color. Besides the top she wears full-length gloves with the same color scheme as her bikini. The cuffs of it are orange-yellow colored and the gloves fade into a white color around her hands.

Her bikini bottom has the same color scheme as the top. A little orange yellow ring is connecting the forth and back. She wears thigh high socks, wich share the same features as her gloves: orange-yellow cuffs, greenish gray colored with several white spots and around her feet they fade into a white color. Also noticable are the orange-yellow bracelets she wears on her left arm and her right foot.

In Real Life

Steller's Sea Cow was first discovered in 1741 around the Commander Islands in the Bering Sea wich were also their natural habitat. The species is named after the German Naturalist Georg W. Steller wich studied the Sea Cows closely. Steller's Sea Cows were wiped out by hunters in less then 30 years after they were discovered. The last reported exemplar was killed in 1768 and with that the species got fully exterminated.

A depiction of the now extinct Steller's Sea Cow

Steller's Sea Cow could reach a length of 9 to 10 meteres (over 30ft) and a weight around 10 metric tons (22,000 pounds). The Sea Cow had a relatively small head and a broad, horizontal forked tail fluke as well as small stumpy flippers near the front of the body. Her barklike skin was dark brown sometimes spotted with white. Steller's Sea Cows were herbivores, mainly eating kelp and seaweed as they had no teeth. The Sea Cows were described as being higly social. They lived in small family groups and helped injured members. Some Reports say that Steller's Sea Cow showed parental care, with young Sea Cows kept at the front of the herde for protection or attacking potential enemys together.

Scientists have tried to establish whether hunting expiditions killed off Steller's Sea Cow, or whether other factors played a role. Nowadays studies came to a conclusion that Steller's Sea Cow was hunted year for year more frequently by expeditions passing the Bering Sea because of their large amout of meat. A report stated that one Sea Cow could feed 33 men and it was tought sailors stored it to feed themselves on voyages lasting up to a year. Humans hunted the Sea Cows faster than they could reproduce wich led to the species extinction.

Trivia

Today the term Sea Cow is often used to refer to the Manatee or Dugong.
