Male Yaks typically live in bachelor herds for most of the year. They fight and establish dominance as the mating seasons starts in the summer. The Pregnancy lasts for around 270 days so the calf is born in the spring. The calf is weaned after a year and becomes independent. Unless food is abundant, females only give birth once every other year.
