Dhole is a Friend in Kemono Friends 3 that appears in both versions of the game, serving as a central character in the game's main story.

Role in the Plot

Studying under the tutelage of Meerkat ever since she first became a Friend, it was Dhole who, seeking someone to help her achieve her dreams to one day become a member of the JSRT, sent out the fateful letter which beckoned the player to travel to Japari Park. Following the injury of Serval, which results in the loss of her Sparkle and thus her ability to fight, Dhole and the new Captain are assigned to head the JSRT in her stead—successfully achieving her dream, and becoming the vice captain of the acting JSRT at that, but not at all in the way she had wanted or envisioned. Working hard to grow her strength and prove her worthiness for the role of second-in-command, Dhole is a stalwart and strong companion, though her teammates often need to reel in her high energy and rambunctious nature. In Season 1, Chapter 8, she loses her memory after a fight with a Hunter Cell goes south. Soon thereafter, in Season 1, Chapter 9, she defeats Alex and successfully regains her lost memories.

Relationships

Serval

Dhole looks up to Serval as a role model and personal hero. When Serval is injured in her fight with Alex, Dhole is distraught, and only grows more upset when Serval asks her to assume the role of vice captain of the JSRT in her absence.

Meerkat

Meerkat is Dhole's tutor, mentor, and close friend. She is responsible for keeping the passionate Dhole in check.

Calenda

A mysterious traveler with whom Dhole is on generally amicable terms. Calenda is very fond of Dhole, who reminds Calenda of a partner she lost long ago.

African Wild Dog

Dhole has a rivalry with her, with the two competing for the affection of the Captain. African Wild Dog wishes for the Captain to join her pack, referring to them as Master.

Black-Tailed Gull

Dhole also has a rivalry with Black-Tailed Gull, who frequently flirts with the Captain—which Dhole doesn't tend to take sitting down.

Kirin

Dhole's jealousy bubbles to the surface whenever Kirin gets too close to the Captain for her liking, becoming upset when the Captain replies to Kirin's letter regarding collecting her red stamp.

Strategy

The base version of Dhole has stats appropriate for her functionality as a starter character for the player, which means they unfortunately pale in comparison to those of limited-availability heavy-hitters, even when Dhole has been maxed out and fully starred. However, she nevertheless sees respectably high usage as an offensive support thanks to her exceptional Miracle Trait: an unconditional, team-wide 15% damage boost that remains active even when Dhole is KO'ed, and which is easy to acquire due to the availability of Dhole's personal enhancement materials via events. This also means she can easily acquire a large number of Photo slots to bolster her stats and capabilities, the former being her only real drawback. Considering this, and the fact that she has a strong Order Flag spread, she is rarely a poor use of a team slot. It can often be advisable to bring a Dhole with her Miracle Trait unlocked as opposed to bringing a non-maxed limited-availability Friend of the affinity you would otherwise require.

In theory, Dhole's lower stats make it easier for her to reach the < 30% HP threshold required to activate her Unique Skill, which reduces the damage taken by her team by 9% and can work in conjunction with her Miracle effect, which reduces the damage output of the opponent targeted by it, if the timing lines up right. However, her low defenses also mean she is likelier to simply be knocked out by a strong attack, rather than being lowered into the < 30% HP sweet spot; this generally means that these damage reduction traits are more of a nice trait to have, which can sometimes come in handy, rather than being something to rely on heavily or strategize around.

Her strengths are even more pronounced in PvP, where mono-type teams are not always optimal or required; by using the Damage Captain Skill on the first turn of play, a strong Dhole can defeat many commonly-seen Relaxed-type characters of relative frailty; Western Parotia and Common Ostrich are two notable examples. Meanwhile, Dhole's teammates can take advantage of the 15% damage boost she grants them to tear through any remaining opponents.
