She wears a long tan shirt with a single breast pocket that fades into white at the middle, which covers a white undershirt with short sleeves and a tan tie - the shirt covers tan shorts with white furred rims. She also wears long white gloves that are tan on the upper side. She has a black walking harness that wraps around her shouderblades and the middle of her torso, with red accents and a red stylized の symbol on it. The domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) is one of the oldest types of domesticated animal, dating back to some 10,000 years. They were domesticated from wolves - certain scientists assert that they, domestic or wild, share an ancestor in the South Asian wolf. Humans have bred thousands of dogs selectively to bring out certain traits, cosmetic or otherwise (for example, to help out with hunting or with herding livestock), causing many breeds to surface. Hence, it is difficult to group every single dog together, even though they all share specific traits, such as marking their territory or burying possessions for later use. They are related to wolves, foxes, and jackals.

The specific dog breed that is referenced in the Domestic Dog's design is that of the Shiba Inu, a breed originating from Japan that was originally bred for hunting by sight and scent in the dense undergrowth of the archipelago's mountainous areas. It is one of Japan's six native breeds, and the most popular - it is also slowly gaining popularity in the west. It is known for being small, alert, attentive, quiet, highly trainable and very active - it is also a rather healthy breed. It was declared a natural product of Japan by the nation in 1936 under the Cultural Properties Act. During and after the second World War, the breed was diminished to near extinction -- three variations of the Shiba Inu were bred to give the breed a comeback, which were the Shinshu Shiba, the Mino Shiba, and the Sanin Shiba. Its average lifespan is 12-15 years, it tends to weight between 20 to 30 (9 to 13 kg) pounds and can be 13 to 15 inches tall (33 to 38 cm).

Trivia

  • The name 'Shiba Inu' is a Nagano prefecture dialect word meaning "Little Brushwood Dog". When translated literally, it means 'small dog'.
  • A picture of a Shiba Inu became memetic in 2013, when an old photo from 2010 of a dog called 'Kabosu' (Japanese: かぼす) was edited to have phrases written in the font Comic Sans with differing colors, usually with heavily misspelled English. It was dubbed 'Doge', and became so popular it was been referenced by members of the United States Congress, a safety video for Delta Air Lines, a Google Easter egg, and the video for the song "Word Crimes" by "Weird Al" Yankovic, as well as having an entire cryptocurrency based on it.
