The Springbok is an Antelope native to steppe and other dry areas of southwestern Africa. They're around 80 centimeters high at the shoulders and around 130 centimeters long. Their back is reddish brown with their underside and rump being white. The brown and white is divided by a thick dark brown stripe. Both sexes have very similar, curved horns.

The Springbok lives in similar social structures as other antelopes. They're divided in different herds; harem herds consist of a dominant, territorial male with some females and their offspring, bachelor herds are males without females (which may also be by themselves) and females with their offspring but without any males. While they may mate year round, the beginning of rainy season marks the time where females enter estrus and males establish and fight over territories. A female may give birth up to three times a year.
 
Springboks are most famous for their "pronking", a series of jumps with stiff legs thought to be a display of strength and fitness to potential mates as well as predators and other males. In fact, it's what they're named after - "spring" means jump in Afrikaans, and "bok" refers to antelope or goat.
 
Springboks are popular as game animals for their meat and attractive coats. They're large in numbers and thrive on farmland, making them popular for ownership on private lands. In the wild, they're preyed on by large cats, jackals and birds of prey. They're South Africas national animal and are the mascot of their national rugby team.
