Bobcat is a type of Friend that first appeared in the original Kemono Friends mobile game.

Appearance

Bobcat has short grey hair, tied into a segmented ponytail at the back. Her ears have a small tuft and are tipped with dark grey and a stripe, and the inside of her ears have fluffy white fur with darker fur in the back. She has two long dark stripes above some smaller rounded markings on her middle bang, and the hair that frames her face is tipped with white and both sides have a single dark grey stripe each. Her tail is short and striped.

Her collared sleeveless white blouse has a spotted grey tie coming out from under the collar, and is tucked into a grey skirt that is mostly spotted with some stripes at the top. She wears a white belt with a black buckle, and has a white ribbon and two straight laces below it. Her gloves are grey and white, and have a few dark stripes at the very top and are spotted at the bottom. Her long socks have this same design, though at the end they suddenly turn black before her white shoes.

In Real Life

Native to the North American Continent, Bobcat's habitats range from the southern fringes of Canada to as deep south as central Mexico. Extremely versatile, it is capable of living in environments such as urban borders, forests, semi deserts, swampland, and wooded areas. Although it faces extreme competition from other predators and is prey to coyote, populations of bobcats have been stable. It prefers woodlands but has been sighted in many contrasting environments, from the swamps of Florida, the deserts of Texas, and even in central New York. Its populations decrease farther north, as the Bobcat does not well-adapted to snowy terrains, its feet are not padded like those of Canadian lynx for instance.

The Bobcat's coat is variable but generally tan to grayish-brown, with black streaks on the body and dark stripes on the forelegs and tail. Its spotted patterns act as camouflage. Its black-tipped ears are pointed with short, black tufts. Its underparts, lips and chin are often off-white. It has a sturdy, or bobbed tail, hence the name of the cat.

The Bobcat is able to survive long periods without food, but tends to gorge itself when food is readily plentiful. Its primary food source is comprised of hares and rabbits, with other prey including chickens, geese, small birds, rodents, deer, and insects. Occasionally, Bobcats also prey on livestock, with Bobcats killing 11,000 sheep in 2004. Like many other cats, the Bobcat is able of bringing down prey much larger that itself. During the winter months when food is scarce, the Bobcat has been noted to hunt and kill deer up to 8 times the weight of itself.

Bobcats can live up to 10 years at maximum. They can live longer in captivity, with the highest record being 32 years old. By the second summer since birth, Bobcats are able to breed. However, it is possible for the females to be capable of reproduction as early as their first year. Males and females are not limited to one mate, and can mate with many other individuals. The female takes care of the kittens alone. With litters ranging from 1 to 6 kittens, they are capable of travelling with the mother as early as 3 months into their lifespans, and will leave their mother a few months after their first year.
