Category:Pantherine Friends

A list of all Friends based on carnivorous mammals representing the cat subfamily Pantherinae, most (but not all) members of which are commonly known as big cats. This group only contains two genera:

• Neofelis, which contains the clouded leopards. While the clouded leopards are panthers, they are not usually considered to be "big cats".
• Panthera, which contains the aforementioned "big cats": jaguars, leopards, lions, snow leopards, and tigers.

Generally speaking, members of this subfamily are able to roar, but not purr, in contrast to their sister group, the "small cats" of Felinae. This sister group is also where some cats such as the cougar and cheetah, which are often thought of as "big cats" due to their size but which are not taxonomic members of that grouping, can be found.
