目と目の間に隆起した部分があり、眼鏡をかけているように見えることからその名がつけられました。ワニの中では小型の部類でオスの全長は２ｍ前後ですが、３ｍ近くに達する記録もあるそうです。主に川や湖で暮らしていますが、汽水域や沿岸でも観察されています。尻尾の力は強く、気性の荒い動物です。 「泳ぎは得意で潜ったりもしますけど、鼻から上を出してプカプカしてるのも好きですよ。疲れたら日光浴とかして休みます。寒いのは苦手です。寒いとじっとしちゃうんですけど、たまに『死んじゃった？』とか言われて(笑)。え？怒りっぽいのかですって？そんなー、イリエワニさんほどじゃないですよぉ」	{{{endescription}}}
