その名の通り、一部の風切羽を除き、全身が黒いハクチョウの仲間です。くちばしは赤く、先端に白い模様があります。季節ごとに短距離を移動する漂鳥です。オーストラリアの固有種ですが、移入され日本でも見ることができます。かつては「黒いハクチョウはいない」と思われていたそうです。 「カモメとか季節で遠くに行くでしょ？アレ、ありえなくない？わたしにはムリ。ちょっとは場所変えるけど、水辺だったらだいたい好き。でも、当たり前っていうのはないものね。決めつけはダメ。常識は疑ってかからないと。パークは何が起きるかわからないから楽しいんだもんね♪」	{{{endescription}}}
