Those birds have a pale grayish plumage, with dark gray wingtips and characteristic pink color in their back, breast and abdomen. The Pink-Backed Pelican lives in a wide range of aquatic habitats such as freshwater lakes, swamps and slow-flowing rivers, but prefers to feed in quiet backwaters and weed-grown lagoons where there is shallow water and emergent vegetation.
This species breeds all year around, building their nests colonially in trees, reeds or low bushes. Multiple birds can have their nests really next to each other, and the same tree can be used again from year to year if it has not collapsed. Their diet consists entirely of fish, the pelicans move around in groups but hunting individually.
