A list of all Friends based on quadrupedal, primarily-carnivorous mammals belonging to the family Canidae, collectively referred to as canids and sometimes colloquially referred to as dogs, although various members of this family are animals not typically referred to as "dogs", such as the foxes. The family has three subfamilies within itself:

  • Caninae, which includes domestic dogs, wolves, foxes, and jackals. Caninae is the only subfamily of canids containing extant members.
  • Borophaginae, an extinct canid subfamily containing the "bone-crushing dogs".
  • Hesperocyoninae, an extinct canid subfamily which is less closely related to the other two canid subfamilies than they are to one another.

This list also includes a few UMA Friends who are based on canids.
