Introduction

Fraternal Myotis' Friend Story is somewhat broken up; the first episode tells one story, and the second and third episodes together tell another story, with the first episode's opening and ending loosely tying into the third episode's ending.

In the first episode, Fraternal Myotis heads out in the daytime to exchange a library book she's finished for a new one, rushing to make it back to the bamboo forest before her friend Common Vampire Bat wakes up from her sleep, stumbling upon Lion on the way there.

In the second and third episodes, Fraternal Myotis helps Blackbuck, Tasmanian Devil, and Australian Devil track down the source of a sinister laughter from within the bamboo forest. During their search, a pack of Celliens ambushes the group, who flee and fall into a dark cavern.

Summary

Episode 1

Fraternal Myotis and Common Vampire Bat meet up in a bamboo forest, the latter apologetically running late after getting lost among the identical-looking bamboo scenery. Common Vampire Bat says she has stories for her friend, which Fraternal Myotis excitedly asks to hear; Common Vampire Bat then recounts how she had recently pranked Silky Anteater with a jack-in-the-box, and gave Serval a surprise that caused her to leap high into the air. Fraternal Myotis asks to hear more stories, a request which her friend gladly obliges as the two bats settle down to sleep.

When Fraternal Myotis wakes up, Common Vampire Bat is still at rest, so the former decides to pass the time by reading a library book she had rented; however, upon remembering that she'd already finished the book, she elects to head out and exchange it for a new one before her friend wakes up, doing so on foot rather than on wing due to the heat of the day. Along her trek, she trips over a lazing Lion, who had been laying on the ground. After the two apologize to one another and Lion checks that the bat Friend had not been injured, Lion asks why a nocturnal Friend like Fraternal Myotis is up in the daytime. Fraternal Myotis attempts to explain, but finds that in her nervousness and the previous commotion that she'd forgotten why she was out and about in the first place. Lion suggests the bat Friend hang out with her until she can recall the purpose of her outing, and the two relax for a while before Fraternal Myotis cracks open the book she was carrying. Upon doing so, she once again realizes she had already finished the book, and tells Lion she'd remembered that she was out picking up a new book to read. With that, the two part ways, with Lion inviting Fraternal Myotis to come by again some future day.

The episode ends as Fraternal Myotis makes her way back across the Savanna Area at sunset, having successfully exchanged her book at the library. With the sun going down, she feels comfortable taking to the air, hurrying back to the bamboo forest before Common Vampire Bat wakes up and notices her absence.

Episodes 2 and 3

While at rest in the bamboo forest, Fraternal Myotis is approached by Blackbuck, Tasmanian Devil, and Australian Devil. Worried that she is in trouble, she inquires upon their visitation, and the group explains that they'd heard a frightening cackling from within the bamboo forest the night prior which they believed may have come from a Friend. They ask Fraternal Myotis if she'd heard anything, who replies that while she had been flying around the previous night, she'd not heard any such laughter. The trio becomes dejected, but Fraternal Myotis cheers them up when she vows to help them in their search. She offers to use her echolocation to detect any other Friends in the area, and quickly picks up on another presence, though the group is interrupted by another mysterious sound almost as soon as she reports her findings. Blackbuck notes that the sound is different from the one they'd heard, but leads the group to investigate the new noise regardless.

They stumble upon a hungry Giant Panda helping herself to the forest's bamboo; Blackbuck, still doubtful, asks if Giant Panda had been the source of the sinister laughter they'd heard, but the panda Friend denies that she'd even been in the bamboo forest the previous night. Watching Giant Panda gleefully indulge in bamboo makes the others hungry as well, and Tasmanian Devil suggests they settle down for a meal; Australian Devil pulls out a stockade of Japari Buns she had packed for the outing, and the group fills their bellies before continuing their search—but not before Fraternal Myotis needs to be reminded what exactly their mission was, having forgotten all about it amidst the tasty meal and good company. As the group re-explains the situation, Australian Devil mentions that she recalls hearing what sounded like the flapping of wings accompanying the laughter. Fraternal Myotis suggests this could have been Crested Ibis, given her unique singing voice, but the Japari-Dan trio vehemently denies this possibility; they suggest they are all too familiar with Toki's voice, and claim that her singing voice is cool, not eerie. One step closer to an answer, the group quietly leaves Giant Panda to her post-meal nap. Fraternal Myotis realizes the possibility that, if the mysterious Friend was active at night, then they may be hidden away to sleep in the daytime. She points out a cavern where she thinks a nocturnal Friend like herself might rest during the day, but doesn't detect anyone there. Just as she warns the others to be careful of the hole, a large pack of Celliens appears and forces the group to flee, causing them to tumble into the very hole they'd just been told to avoid.

As the Japari-Dan trio collects themselves, they hear a familiar, high-pitched giggle echo off of the cavern walls—the very laugh they had been searching for. They look to its source, and see none other than Fraternal Myotis standing over them with a grin. Surprised to learn that the Friend they'd sought had been with them the entire time, the trio is also thrown off by the sudden change in Fraternal Myotis' disposition, who remarks that she is the same as usual; it is the scenery that is different, cloaking her in a pleasant veil of darkness more akin to what she is used to in contrast with the glaring light of day. Tasmanian Devil eagerly asks her how she makes such a scary laugh, but Fraternal Myotis claims she doesn't do anything in particular, and as such has nothing to teach. Australian Devil shifts the subject to ask how the group plans to escape their situation; Fraternal Myotis proposes carrying the three flightless Friends out through the hole they'd fallen through one at a time, but Blackbuck vetoes the idea, fearing Fraternal Myotis would be attacked by the Celliens lurking at the surface. Tasmanian Devil notices a tunnel nearby, suggesting it might lead to an exit, but once again Blackbuck warns against the idea, as none of them have sufficient night vision to safely traverse such a dark passage. Fraternal Myotis once again steps up to the occasion, prompting Tasmanian Devil to ask what she intends to do to help; the bat Friend asks if Tasmanian Devil had forgotten about her echolocation, explaining she can use it to ensure safe passage for the group. Everyone joins hands and follows Fraternal Myotis' lead, who warns them of loose stones and impresses the Japari-Dan trio with her aptitude. Detecting a Cellien nearby, Fraternal Myotis guides the group around its path, deciding that engaging in combat would be hazardous; Blackbuck concurs. When the threat passes, the group continues towards the cave exit, and Tasmanian Devil excitedly dashes outside once the cave mouth is in sight. As the others exit the cave and Blackbuck gives her thanks to Fraternal Myotis, the Japari-Dan leader draws her weapon and warns Tasmanian Devil of danger ahead, where numerous Celliens lie in wait. The team swiftly dispatches the assailants, and the group collects itself; they note that, upon entering the light, Fraternal Myotis has returned to an easygoing disposition. The Friends then part ways, and Japari-Dan invites Fraternal Myotis to play with them again.

As the third episode closes, Fraternal Myotis makes her way through the woods, noting that she would normally be asleep at that time. Exhausted, she finds a tree hollow to comfortably sleep in until the night, quickly dozing off as she thinks about her big adventure with her new friends. Not long thereafter, Common Vampire Bat finds her asleep, having been worriedly searching through the unfamiliar woods for her good friend. She remarks to herself that she'd best not wake Fraternal Myotis up, electing instead to snuggle up in the tree hollow beside her fellow bat.
