Saltwater Crocodile is an easygoing yet powerful Friend deeply dedicated to protecting her companions from harm and turmoil. She despises conflict, and is always ready to smash a Cellien into dust or mediate a dispute between Friends. Once peace is restored, she can return to her most favorite activity: sunbathing.

Although Saltwater Crocodile believes the best life is a quiet life, she is likewise the kind of Friend who is happiest when her pals are smiling, playing, and laughing out loud. Even though her home was designed as a place of solace from the ever-buzzing world of Kingdom, Friends often come by to play on its famous slide, which sends riders into the river with a great splash—and Saltwater Crocodile doesn't mind the bustle one bit. She's laid-back incarnate; even mistakenly stepping on her tail won't foul her temper, though one would be wise to not purposefully test her.

Relationships

Axolotl

Though Saltwater Crocodile acts as a big sister figure to many other Friends, she is particularly protective of Axolotl, nagging her to stay out of harm's way and scolding her when she does something she shouldn't. Likewise, she also enjoys teasing her; it was Saltwater Crocodile who coined the nickname "Wooper Looper" for Axolotl. The two are often seen swimming together.

Gentoo Penguin

In the Saltwater Crocodile Kingdom Moment "Swimming Together", Gentoo Penguin visits Saltwater Crocodile's home specifically to play with her, having heard about the crocodilian's swimming prowess; this comes as a slight surprise to Saltwater Crocodile, who is more used to uncommon visitors seeking her slide rather than herself. She gladly accepts the invitation, and the two enjoy a swimming session, though Saltwater Crocodile is bewildered by Gentoo Penguin's incredible swimming speed and loses track of her. Some shiny stones on the riverbed catch the eye of Gentoo Penguin, who collects them and gives them to Saltwater Crocodile as a decorative housewarming gift.

Hippopotamus

These two have a friendly riverside rivalry, as the resident "big sisters" of the Silent River. It is to a degree one-sided, as it seems to always be Saltwater Crocodile who issues the challenges; Hippopotamus is unconcerned with proving who is faster or tougher.

North American Beaver

North American Beaver constructed Saltwater Crocodile's home, and while proud of her work she also can't help but feel the abode can be improved upon. Despite building it so that Saltwater Crocodile could enjoy peace and quiet, North American Beaver herself frequently disturbs that silence with ideas for touch-ups or adjustments. The stoic Saltwater Crocodile doesn't seem to mind, nor is the irony lost on her.

Spectacled Caiman

In one of her chatting voice lines, Saltwater Crocodile remarks that an otherwise unseen Spectacled Caiman Friend had commented on her grouchy-looking face. Nothing else is known about this Friend.

Strategy

• Though outclassed by Guard Friends with higher star ratings, Saltwater Crocodile is a fantastic early-game Friend and is a reliable Splendor Guard Friend for many Main Story stages, continuing to function fine as a side-grade or secondary Guard as the player acquires new, stronger Guard Friends.
• Saltwater Crocodile's Miracle effect granting increased healing received, especially in tandem with her Combo partner being the Heal Friend Axolotl, can make Saltwater Crocodile a deceptively sturdy wall for a three-star Friend.
• Her first Habit, Bathe in a Bay, can be useful on stages with enemies who deal damage in repeated hits, as its effect stacks each time a Friend takes damage.
• Her ideal Album is Thunder Defense, as this best compensates for her relatively lower DEF buffs compared to other Guards. If she is acting as a secondary Guard on a stage where only one use of a Guard Miracle will be needed, then Heart of the Watch is an option.
• Because she does not take damage on underwater stages, Saltwater Crocodile can be a valuable Guard for players who are struggling with underwater stages and who do not have Hippopotamus.
• Once a player has acquired and enhanced stronger Guards—namely the Splendor Guard Friends Hippopotamus and Black Rhinoceros—and no longer relies on Axolotl as a Heal Friend, few use cases remain for Saltwater Crocodile beyond use by dedicated fans as an assistant Guard for one of the aforementioned higher-ranked Splendor Guard Friends.

Trivia

• Hiromi Igarashi reprises her role as Saltwater Crocodile, whom she has voiced in all Kemono Friends media since Kemono Friends 2 in 2019.
• The slide constructed on Saltwater Crocodile's home may simply be a reference to a water slide, though its inspirations could run deeper, as some crocodilian species have been observed sliding along such structures as downhill-running streams in a display of possible play behavior.
