A list of all Friends based on animals which are listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s Red List of Threatened Species as having a conservation status of Extinct in the Wild (EW), meaning that while the species is known to persist in captive settings such as zoos, there are no known living specimens in the wild, meaning they are totally absent from their native ecosystems.
Unlike Friends based on species that have gone totally extinct, which are often denoted by an absence of white highlights in their eyes, Friends based on species that are extinct in the wild retain their white eye highlights, representing the fact that their species persist and may some day be able to be reintroduced into their native ranges.
For a list of Friends based on animals which are entirely extinct, with no known living specimens remaining on Earth, see this page.
For a list of Friends based on animals which still persist in their wild native ecosystems, but which are in danger of becoming extinct in the wild or extinct outright, see this page.
